Gala Day 2017

Friday 4 August 2017

Gala day posterOur annual Gala Day is coming to Firhill Sports Complex on August 26!

As our glorious summer of rain and more rain draws to a dreich end, a day of community family fun in the North West of Glasgow is guaranteed to brighten up your day.

Queens Cross Housing Association is hosting their annual Gala Day on 26 August 2017, celebrating the local area and everything it has to offer.

The event, from midday until 4pm at the Firhill Sports Complex, will see a cultural and diverse range of local talent showcasing their skills throughout the day. We have dance troupes from the Chinese dance school and A&M street dancers, and musical renditions from the Eiger Music Band and the Apollo Players.

There’s an array of events and stalls designed to entertain all ages.  There’s face painting, play on pedals and operation play indoors, a real-life version of the popular mobile game Angry Birds, for the little ones.

Visitors can get creative with art groups, craft workshops and biscuit making, let loose on the fairground rides and games stalls, have your future told with tarot card reading, or tuck into the many different food options on offer; from African, Chinese and Italian cuisine, healthy smoothies to the more traditional hot rolls, burgers and hot dogs.

Those looking to get active can take part in tae-kwon-do and tai-chi demonstrations, or test themselves with the various different football challenges taking place throughout the day.

Speaking ahead of the event, Queens Cross Chair Marilyn Clewes said:

“The Gala Day is one of the most important days in our calendar as it offers an opportunity to our residents to come together and celebrate what the local area has to offer.

“QCHA prides itself on the four communities it represents; Dundasvale, Hamiltonhill, Queens Cross and Woodside, and is excited about hosting a day which gives something back to our tenants.”

Queens Cross Gala Day will run from 12 – 4pm on Saturday 26 August at Firhill Sports Complex, Hopehill Rd, Glasgow, G20 7AL. The event is free and open to all.
